Lots of quick bites the last few days. After the great (and huge, 15 distributors, >75 wines) wine tasting at the West Roxbury Blanchard's, we went across the street to the Corrib for a quick bite. Split the excellent onion rings ($4.50) which I wish they'd allow to substitute w/ sandwiches. I got a bacon swiss burger that was well beyond the medium I asked for but it was okay ($6.50). Fries are boring and I'd actually ordered the "Corrib fries" which I guess are waffle style but they made a mistake and I'd had enough fried goodness. Friend had a fried chicken sandwich that he enjoyed, w/ better than usual sweet potato fries. Other just had a gin & tonic that he said packed a punch, for all of $3.50.

On my Friday off, I completely changed the L'Esplalier lunch plan and drove to Marshfield to finally try Arthur & Pat's figuring it wouldn't be crazy on a weekday. Thought I might go to Haddad's Ocean Cafe or Lobster Tale on the same street but after standing in front of A&P and a biker guy saying to let him know if anyone gave me a hard time (had read semi horror stories on the rudeness of the waitress/co-owner), I went in and she greeted me warmly with how things work. The woman who actually waited on me was nice too. Many breakfast and lunch choices but I decided on a crabcake sandwich w/ fries and slaw ($11.95). Always a crap shoot with crab cakes and this was okay altho not overly crabby. Nice garnish of tiny fried zucchini strips, slaw didn't have too much mayo, fries okay. No pie for dessert but that was okay cuz I'd picked up a donut up the road at the Coffee Shack. They didn't have many choices left, I went with a choc. cake donut w/ choc frosting and it was really good. They have another location in Pembrook or somewhere further toward Boston on Rt. 139.

Finally went to Putterham Circle and got a couple things from the famous Cheryl Ann's. Wasn't impressed at all with their rugelach, it was like Stop & Shop crescent roll dough as far as I could tell. A sticky bun w/ walnuts was better and a sample of a choc. cake w/ white glaze was pretty tasty. Thought about breakfast at Andrea's Greek Kitchen, or whatever it's called, but 2 eggs w/ bacon were about $8 and things seemed overpriced in general. Plus I was curious about Mandarin but that was a mistake. At least as far as a lunch special of kung pao shrimp goes. I specifically asked what size the shrimp were and he said they weren't baby shrimp. They were infant shrimp then cuz there were a million little shrimp and I should have just sent it back but the peanuts and veggies were okay. Chicken wing fine, fried wonton not. $7.25 w/ soup. A quick slice of pesto pizza from Penguin was super thin and kind of old I think. Not to say I didn't eat the whole thing (huge slices for $3) but not as good as it could be.

Lastly, grabbed some spicy pork w/ rice and salad from the Korean booth at the Harvard Sq. Mayfair on Sun. It actually was spicy and I thoroughly enjoyed. My friend wanted a grilled hot dogo which seemed like a simple request but the two places we stopped only grilled the sausages, not the dogs which seems stupid. They threw it on the grill for a second for her but it didn't do the trick. Serene Chocolates had cookies and brownies out which we came back to after the main course. The woman is really nice and said she would have saved me a choc. chip if I told her but an oatmeal raisin cookie as big as my head was good. And Bang Camraro totally rocked.

Joanie, the only thing Cheryl Ann's is "famous" for is their delicious Challah, the rest of their bakery items are average at best. People come from far and wide but only for their Challah not their other items.

Andrea's is right next to Cheryl Ann's. I didn't eat there so can't comment on the food.

I figured something else at CA's would be good besides bread, which I seldom buy. Oh well, no need to make a special trip from my JP bakeries.
