Good food in Monroe, LA?

  • 3

My family and I will be traveling to Monroe next month. I noticed that all the posts were fairly dated. Any suggestions on places to eat that South LA folks might enjoy?

  1. I know it's a little late to answer the question, but...if anyone from south LA comes to Monroe looking for good suggestions, I might can help. There is only one place in town to get a true nawlins style po-boy. ONLY ONE. gabbeauxs bayles landing has a roast beef po-boy that is new orleans style meaning smoothered in gravy (NOT ON THE SIDE). it is served on gambino's bread. these two things mean alot to anyone from south louisiana. I grew up in West Monroe and later on lived in Baton Rouge while going to college, and learned alot about good food. People who don't know any better think that the best po-boy in town is Rays pee gee. Well, its a good sandwich but not a great po-boy. Another suggestion for southern LA'ers is Cormier's in Monroe. A must have is the Pig sandwich and the boudin....awesome stuff.

Thanks so much! I'll be sure to check out both of them. Since my son has decided to attend ULM, I'm sure I'll be making more than one trip.

cool. let me know what you think. also, here is the website for gabbeauxs in case you havent already googled them or merely just used common sense.

they used to have a website for cormier's but doesn't appear they do anymore. Dont expect anything fancy there, mainly picnic tables outside under the patio with a few tables inside. but their crawfish when in season are excellent and the pulled pork (pig sandwich) is so good. it comes with jambalaya and a pickled okra on the side. YUM.
