Porky's MSP-any good?

Every time I drive by this place (on University Ave) I wonder if it's worth trying...but I want to get a solid recommendation from someone first. Has anyone been recently?

The review of Davydd is spot on. In terms of food quality there are a lot better bets for greasy burgers and fries, however sitting around slurping soda on a humid mid-summer Friday evening watching the classic cars go by might be something worth doing once a year. As an east sider I want to plug the Dariette on Minnehaha ave west a few blocks from White Bear Ave is a hidden little gem of a drive in.

I like the Dairy-ette, too, the hot dago sandwiches and the house-made "dilly" bars. I've tried the pizza burgers, too, though that's more of a nostalgia thing for me.

Chris, have you ever tried their red sauce to go? Is it any good? Anything else on their menu you recommend?

The sauce is a little sweet for my taste, but good for satisfying a crowd. I am stuck on the Hot-Dago (I still can't belive they call it that!).

Bob called it. Porky's is not a place you go for fine dining. It's a place you go to see some incredible street rods toolin' around on Friday nights. It's an especially good place to go hang out (if you can get a spot) during the state fair or the back to the 50's car show - a nonstop parade of great cars to watch - you'll forget about tasting your food anyway ;)

I can recommend one item on the menu: the onion rings. They are my favorites. I go to Porky's about twice a year and order the rings and a coke. I had them about a month ago and enjoyed my snack. They are extremely salty, though, so it may or may not be an acquired taste.
