Cafe Pizzaiolo - new contender for best NY style pizza

IMO this new place serves the best NY style pizza in all of NoVa, and would contend with the best in DC. all the qualities your look for are there - crispy yet chewy crust with some grit on the bottom, good sauce, not too cheesy, a little oily. Mrs D and I preferred the NY style over the Neopolitan style, the Neop crust had a strange strong herby taste, detracting from the overall flavor of the pie.
there's a short but good beer and wine list too - including a yummy Nicolis 2003 Testal and my current favorite IPA, Dogfish Head 60-Minute.
The atmosphere is nothing to speak of, like a Starbucks, very family-friendly including game materials for kids. the service can be slow and incompetent, but when your pizza finally arrives, aaah....

Thanks for the heads up. Might have to try this BEFORE Artomatic, as they seem to have such short hours.... they close at 9pm!!!

I have to agree with Jamie D. I loved the NY style crust with roasted garlic and fresh basil. My wife is partial to the Neapolitan style. I love that they offer the choice. It's a dream place for a gourmet pizza lover. Our 7 yr old likes the pineapple and ham but that just makes me queazy.
The Testal is great. The price is good and you can get beer and wine to go. The fact that we've come over the river from Bethesda 3 times in the last couple months is a testament to good pizza

I have to agree with you. I was born in Glen Cove NY moving to Va. when I was 8. The one thing that I always missed was NY style pizza. I tell everyone who will listen that I've finally found that same pizza parlor taste here. IMO a great selection of beer and wine due to the fact that there's almost nothing they serve that I haven't enjoyed myself. A great find for me and my family.

Has anyone tried the sandwiches at Cafe Pizzaiolo? Specifically the meatball or sausage?
