how's the food at Washington Square Tavern these days?
I tried searching but couldn't find a recent review. Back in Boston on a rare, family-obligation-free Saturday and I'd like to take my sweetie out on a date. We have a sentimental attachment to the WST since it was one of the first places we went together. Has anyone eaten there recently, any recs? I know they have had their ups and downs but I haven't eaten there in a couple of years.
If it is lousy, can anyone recommend similar price ranges and feel within a 15-minute-walkable radius?
thanks in advance.
i went a few months ago. while it's not the most amazing food ever i love the atmosphere, solid beer selection, and decent food at reasonable prices. it was probably a tiny bit down compared to when i went a year ago but still definitely a great place, especially if you have a sentimental attachment to it
I sat at the bar for a bite about a month ago - had an asparagus soup that was just springtime in a bowl - so delicious and fresh. I've always been a fan of their burgers, consistently well-seasoned, cooked to my liking with delicious fries.
Definitely NOT lousy! I still love the place.
Live just down the street and was actually there last night for a quick dinner - the place is always bustling, even on a Wednesday night, but love the cozy/warm feeling. They just introduced a new menu (as they do from season to season) and enjoyed the Veal Marsala with Truffled Mushroom Risotto and Lemon Arugula. DC had Sirloin with Broccolini, Mashed Potatoes and Shallot Glaze which was good (steak actually cooked medium rare), but nothing special/outstanding. But definitely worth a trip, and always a great place for a date.
