Dinner for 25 in Sacramento
I need to set up a nice dinner for 25 in Sacramento. Where should we eat? This is a work function, the food and atmosphere should be relatively upscale.
That is a large party and may overwhelm many smaller places. I would recommend Il Fornaio on Capitol Mall for a nice dinner. Even though it is a chain, I have never had a bad meal there, and the ambiance and food are very good. They also can accomodate very large parties and have excellent banquet menus.
A couple of suggestions for you:
(The one's with asterisk's are my favorite)
**** There is a new place on L St. called The L. It's a wine bar/urban lounge. Don't let the name fool you- it's fairly big. Ask for the private room. The place is gorgeous. Very chic. The only thing that might deter you is that the food is a "small plate" concept. But it is delicious. Even if you don't eat there, it is worth it to go and get a glass of wine after dinner.
****Waterboy-I think this is the best around. Rick Mayhan (sp?) is the chef. The food and service are awesome! The only thing is that I'm not sure if they can accomodate 25. I hope so. It's right on Capitol St.
****Ruth's Chris- Upscale steakhouse (I'm sure you have heard of it). Great for larger parties like yours. Located in Fair Oaks at the Pavillions. Pavillions is a beautiful outdoor shopping center.
Biba- Italian- an classy old school Italian restaurant. Delicious. Has been around forever.
Mason's- Now, I've only eaten there once and the food/service was okay. But the atmosphere is great. (Modern design) And they have a private room.
55 degrees in Capitol Mall- I've had cocktails there but haven't had the chance to dine. I've heard it is quite good- from what I know- some well known french chef is the executive chef.
McCormick & Schmidt- Fairly new to Sacramento-Fish house- it's a chain but a lot of business people go there since it is so close to the capitol. It has that classic dark wood/hunter green kind of feel.
So, I did all this and then realized you said it was going to be 100 people-
Alright so a change of plans:
I'm going to say Firehouse would be your best option. When are you coming? Because they have an unbelievable patio. Food is good. They do a lot of bigger parties. And it is upscale and not a hotel banquet room, which is nice.
Ruth's Chris might be a possibility.
Try Aioli Bodega Espanol. We've done 22 there and it was a huge success - they bend over backwards for big parties, and it's really one of the best restaurants in town and quite affordable for the quality and volume of food and drink. they have a full bar and just terrific service. Very accessible Spanish food, something for everyone, including vegetarians.
Oops, nevermind. I see you've grown to 100+ now, so forget it. Maybe you should think of multiple smaller meals, as I can't imagine you'll get anything even slightly decent for that many people. Rubber convention chicken, basically ... hotel-like fast food.
