Need Some Good Cake in Carlsbad

babygotback May 2, 2007 07:55 PM

We just moved to Carlsbad from OC and want to find a good place to order a cake - not Costco. I asked my son who will be 4 what he wants on his b-day cake...Mr. Potato Head. I know, what? I want to make it fun, but eatable.

I get cakes at "My Flavorite Bakery" in Encinitas. Shopping center at the corner of El Camino Real and Encinitas Blvd. They have a great chocolate mousse cake. Same shopping center as Trader Joe's and Ralph's.

I'm sorry to report that "My Flavorite Bakery" has closed. There is another bakery there now but I haven't tried it. I peaked inside and was not particularly impressed .

The french bakery (think that's the name). Just west of the 5 off Carlsbad Village Dr. exit.
In an Albertsons and True Value Hardware shopping center.

Gotta second The Carlsbad French Pastry Cafe (the one kitchenhag recommends). Real, authentic French pastries. YUM! Also, the Danish Bakery downtown (off of Roosevelt?) may make cakes, though I haven't been there in YEARS!

You might also check Pronto's deli in downtown Carlsbad, the owners daughter does all the baking and she is a CIA grad. I've not tried the cakes myself but they sure look good.

I have not tried this place, but I have seen raves for it on this website. It is called Elizabethan Desserts, and it is located near Quail Gardens in Encinitas. I can't wait to check it out!
