Windsor CT casual dining

I will be visiting Six Flags NE and staying in Windsor. I am looking for a few casual dining choices in the Windsor area. American/BBQ would be good options for the group. I am new to the NE boards so I apologize if this question has been asked and answered a million times!

New BBQ place next to the Harley Davidson stire on Connecticut Blvd in East Hartford...ate there last night..pretty good...it isn't Salt Lick or anything...there was an acticle in the food section of the Hartford Courant on Thursday about it...can't remember it's name...easy to get to about 15 minutes from Windsor. Ribs were good, puklked pork...not smokey enough...

Google the Harley Store...the'll give you the details...I think they are sort of connected...

The place in East Hartford is the Cookhouse. Here's a link: http://www.thecookhouse.com/

If you're looking for a good breakfast or lunch spot in Windsor, you might try Dom's Broad Street Eatery, in the center of town. It's in the Geissler's Market parking lot. There's also a fairly new restaurant, Union Street Tavern, on Union St. in Windsor center. I've only been there once so far, so I can't vouch for consistency, but it was pretty good. The menu isn't huge, but it has something for everyone, and the atmosphere is much better than what you might experience at a chain. They're open for lunch and dinner.

A little further north, there's the Iron Door Tavern on route 5 in Enfield. It's a bit more upscale than your standard pizza place, but casual nonetheless. The menu is varied and the chef is generally willing to adjust items to suit diners' tastes and dietary needs. I've been there a half dozen or so times since they've opened, and have yet to be disappointed.

There is also a Cracker Barrel in East Windsor a few exits north on I-91. There is also great local seafood place called Maine Seafood on Bridge Street in East Windsor. Been there a couple of times and it is casual and fresh. Jay

I second Maine Seafood, the fish is really good! If you are looking for good Italian or pizza there is Lena's Restaurant and Pizza in South Windsor, off of Rte 5.

I second Little Taste of Texas, good food and plenty of it. Try the ribs, pork or beef.

For BBQ it either Danny's Little Taste of Texas in South Windsor or Little Mark's BBQ in Vernon or the chain Smokey Bones in Manchester. There are most of the usual chain restaurants (Hometown Buffet, Ruby Tuesday, Ninety-Nine, ) around the malls in Enfeld and Manchester. You might want to try Sofia's in East Windsor, basically italian but they serve everything from steaks to seafood. For more upscale try Tosca in Suffield or Tuscan Twins in Bloomfield.
