Cake in Charleston, SC?

thbunny May 2, 2007 03:06 PM

I'm looking for a bakery for a birthday cake this weekend in Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, or West Ashley. Any recommendations on where I can get a delicious cake that is made fresh? Has anyone been to Cupcake on King street? Thanks so much!

I wanted to report back about Rococo. Overall, it was a great experience. I didn't have a specific cake type in mind, so the woman suggested their signature cake - the strawberry cream cake. It was a big hit with adults and kids at the birthday. I personally thought the ratio of cake to whipped cream was a little too skewed to the whipped cream, but it tasted fresh and looked pretty.

I didn't sample any of their other baked goods but I have heard the tomato pie is to die for!

Thank you for taking the time to report back, and I am glad everything worked out for you. Besides cake, the only other baked goods I have tried were their pastries, and they were excellent.

Also late to this reply but Ashley Bakery and Frosted Monkey Bakery are both in West Ashley and are excellent.

Buy a coconut cake at The Penisula Grill...Excellent!

I have been to Cupcake on King twice. I thought the cupcakes were very good, although not divine. My second visit was dissapointing in that we went around 6 pm and there were none of the more unusual flavors left. Just vanilla and choc. Their menu shows lots more choices.

Thanks! For $2.75 per cupcake I would definitely expect divine!

Hey, that's relatively cheap...We have a place here that charges $3.25/cupcake!

I agree with danna on cupcake, good but not outstanding. As for a fresh cake, what about Rococo German Bakery? I think they have two locations, one in West Ashley and one in Summerville.

Thanks for the recommendations and advice! I just ordered one from Rococo German Bakery. Can't wait to try it! I'll report back.

Well, this may be a case of closing the barn door too late, but Saffron's and Kennedy's knock the socks off Rococo.

I have also not been impressed with the cupcakes from Cupcake. Way too pricey and some have been close to inedible. But, our kids love them.
