I'll be there in t-minus 5 days. I'll need to bring back/ship some gifts home and was wondering if anyone could tell me who makes their favorite olive oil in Napa/Sonoma. I have some culinary friends who would very much appreciate this gift.
Many thanks!!!

The Olive Press is in (just south of) Glen Ellen which is a few miles north of the town of Sonoma. It's a coop olive press and in that storefront they sell and have tastings of their members' oils. It's fun and instructive to taste their oils. My favorite the last time I went there was Marquesa. It "jumped out" at me in the tasting. It's quite full flavored and I use it for oil-centric things like dipping bread into. They also have infused oils, for example with blood orange which I also bought and use to drizzle over veggies before roasting. But the fun is in making your own choices.

I'll add that if you're there, one of my favorite places for lunch, Olive & Vine, is in the same building. It's a catering company with a cafe and it's good enough I make it a point to go there if I'm near. Also in Glen Ellen is the Garden Court Cafe & Bakery for a great breakfast (you'll find several posts about it). Hey, you don't have to leave Glen Ellen...

We think that the McEvoy olive oil is the best in the valley. Link to their web site is included.

A slight correction: while I agree about the high quality of McEvoy Olive Oil, it is not a Napa Valley product. The ranch is in the Chileno Valley in far western Marin County. Surely available in Napa though at places like Oakville Grocery or Dean and DeLuca.

There are some specifically Napa oils as well.

Ok as much as I want to keep this place a secret…Depending on how far you want to travel, the Napa Valley Olive Oil Manufacturing Co. in St. Helena is a great place. It is by far the best olive oil I have found in the area, and you can get any size from bottles to jugs. Also the little shop has a variety of cheeses, pastas and other Italian imports.

Agreed that the olive oil at this gem of a place is very good but the olives are grown and pressed in the Central Valley. Try Round Pond and BR Cohn for excellent Napa and Sonoma olive oil respectively. And Preston in Dry Creek Valley.

I drive 1 1/2hours to Napa Valley Olive Oil Manufacturing Co. every few months to pick up a jug of their oil, it is execellent and a great value. It is also a great place to pick up house cured olives, bread and cheese, salami, pasta, beans etc..

Mc Evoy is also a wonderful oil, however it's on the pricier end of the scale.

I really like Da Vero olive oil from Healdsburg. Both their Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil and their Estate Meyer Lemon (the lemons are pressed with the olives) Olive Oil are really terrific. And in November, they release a fabulous Nuovo Olive Oil.

I think you're referring to the one at the Jacuzzi Winery on Highway 121/Carneros Highway, about two or three miles up from Infineon (Sears Point) raceway en route to Sonoma and Napa. It's alarge stone building and easy to spot -- next door to Viansa (avoid) and across the road from Cline. Yes same Jacuzzi (and same family as Cline.)
