Lunch in Orange, CA

I will be at St. Joseph Hospital at S. Main and W, Le Veta with a friend. What places would you recommend for a great lunch within a short drive of the hospital ( 10 to 15 minutes). Thanks

  1. Here are a few options:

Orange circle restaurants - Starting at Chapman and Main
Felix Continental (Cuban) - reliably good food
    Citrus City Grille
Watson Drug Store and Soda Fountain - ole fashioned chocolate sodas

The Block at Orange - City Blvd and the 22 freeway
    Cafe Tu Tu Tango
    Corner Bakery Cafe
Market Broiler - Seafood and fish specialties

Closer to the hospital would be the Main Place mall Olive Garden & CPK but try the places in the Orange Circle, much better.

    Have a great lunch!

I've never understood this boards appreciation with Felix. I went a couple of times and was really dispointed both times. To each his/her own I guess.

I agree- decent prices, but pretty boring, uninspired food, often overcooked and dry.

I totally agree with you regarding Felix. I think the food is so sloppily prepared. It think they have the worse cuban food. I'm really surprised of how busy they get though. Unfortunately my boyfriend likes going there, I just try to avoid getting anything Cuban there. They do have a thing that is really good called the latina french toast. It;s two peices of french toast with cream cheese and guava jelly in the middle.

      2. Consider also,
Gabbi's Kitchen on Glassell just south of the plaza in dwntwn Orange
Tangata @ Bowers Museum on Main just south of St. Joe's
Green Parrot Cafe (ditto on location)

        1. When i'm in that area I always try to hit Yen Ching. Love their pot stickers and Mandarin chicken.

          Yen Ching
          574 S. Glassell, Orange, CA 92866

          1. Ditto on Felix and Citrus City.

            1. Tangata, Gabbi's Mexican, Citrus City Grill from me, too, in that order.

              1. Taco Adobe in Orange (near the circle)
                Felix's (in the circle)
                Filling Station

                1. The Chili Pepper right around the corner on Main Street just south of Chapman. Pretty good Mexican food. I also second the nominations of Felix and Citrus City Grille. Felix gets mixed reviews on this board, but I have never been disappointed in the dozen+ times I've been. In downtown Santa Ana you can try Memphis on Broadway/2nd Street. It's kind of an eclectic modern twist on southern food.

                    1. If you are up for Thai food, Bangkok Taste is very close. It is a little unpretentious place in a mini mall, that serves some of the best Thai food in Orange County. It has been written up on this board a few times, so do a search if you are interested.
                      Bangkok Taste
2737 N Grand Ave (just south of the 22 freeway)
                      Santa Ana, CA 92705

I second Chili Pepper. They are just around the corner and the service is good. I have been going there since I was a kid.

                      2. Rutabegorz, a block and a half north of the Orange Circle.

I've heard about this place, apparently they serve this amazing chicken salad. What type of food is served there?

                          1. re: groover808

Soups, salads, sandwiches. Food is pretty tasty.

California-Hippie cuisine, but it's pretty darn good. The salads are really tasty. There's one in Fullerton, one in Orange and one in Tustin.

                          2. Be sure to grab a malt from Watson's. And oh yeah, bring a friend. They give you a lot!
