I had Damiana in Cabo over the weekend... very intriguing. Made from a local plant, its a supposed aphrodisiac that is even being bottled. It makes a good spirit and does seem to live up to its expectation.

Bar at Rancho Leonero on the Baja CA. East Cape uses Damiana in their Margurita's - on top of triple sec, fresh squeezed lime juice and a silver tequila - a nearly additive cocktail. I found Damiana at BevMo, and happily recreate this at home...

I'm not fond of the flavor myself, but Damiana tea does apparently work as a libido booster, i.e., it won't cure physical problems, eliminate frigidity, or any of the things that reported aphrodisiacs *do*, but it can at times assist as a mood amplifier.

Ymmv, whether it works as a liquer in that capacity, I am not 100% sure, but the comment "does seem to live up to its expectation" is a good turn of a phrase.

I kept damiana liquer on my shelf for years, after about 15 I threw what remained out when I moved one time, iirc.

Made me think of the old phrase, "candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker", I think willy wonka said that in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.

Just was given a bottle of Damiana (as well as half-gallon of pure vanilla) from my friend's trip to Cabo, Mexico.

Anything else to do with Damiana 'sides a margarita (which I am not opposed to at all! Love margaritas!). I haven't opened to the bottle yet to smell/taste it.... similar at all to any other more common liquor?
