As we were discussing the cupcake shops in town, I was thinking where can I get great muffins in Montreal. Any suggestions?

I love the Muffins at La Mie Matinale in the Gay Village (1371 Sainte-Catherine Est), 514-529-5656. They are large, have a great not-too-fluffy-not-too-dense texture, and some of them are laden with berries. So yummy.

I had the morning glory (raisin, carrot, pineapple and coconut) at Olive & Gourmando and it was mighty tasty, dense but in the ingredient way, not the dough and oil way... Worth a taste for sure, as with all their other goodies...

You could try out this place: http://www.petitsgateaux.ca/
Looks like they just opened up (Even though the web page says "Opening Soon"). I passed by in front of there randomly on saturday and gave it a try. Not bad. I can't say I found it mind-blowing or anything, but still pretty tasty. It's worth trying out. They had about 4-5 different types of cupcakes and all of them were the 'small' type of cupcakes like the ones you'd usually do at home.

I'm guessing only cupcakes, but I'll be checking them out later this week. I had first posted about this place, soon to be opening up around 7-10 days ago.

My bad.. Okay, ignorance got the best of me. I didn't really know there was a difference between cupcakes and muffins. :) But yes, from what I saw of the place, all they served was cupcakes, and that was it.

(Noticed the other thread after posting about it here, woopsie).

Except for the frosting on top, the cupcakes at Petits Gateaux tasted very much like muffins to me.

Tried them this afternoon. They're just OK at best, as you say nothing mindblowing or anything. Slightly dressed regular cupcakes, based on trying one(in some cases the only difference between each of their cupcakes is the different frosting on top). The big turn-off for me is their high prices, for these small cupcakes. They charge $2.75 each! Even at Cocoa Locale(the first Montreal cupcake establishment & I find their cupcakes very good), I only go their semi-regularly because of the high prices.
