Fantastic Restaraunt in or Around Stamford, CT?

zestysunflower May 1, 2007 03:40 PM

I want to get a belated wedding present for two of my friends who live in Stamford. However, I am clueless since I'm a city girl. Any suggestions for places fairly close to Stamford (30 minutes or so) that may sell gift certificates?

I suggest Restaurant Thomas Hinkelman (sp?) in Greenwich about 10 minutes from Stamford.
IMHO one of the best places in Ct. Not cheap but great food and setting.

Telluride has fallen off the "A" list since they lost both their owner (now at Napa &Co) and the chef (to the Tavern place in Westport).

I Think Telluride still good, so many of the other restaurants mention above are great too!!!!
Is just a matter of what you like.
I know the Chef at Telluride and Tavern on the main I think They are very talented.
          The matter might be personal................

          Thomas is great.

The old chef from Telluride is the new chef at Tavern, so if you know one you know both

not really, but they are great, is just harder to get out for some people, everything is getting expensive and people try to spend less.
May be that is why capriccio's does well, middle scale food.

Blue Hill @ Stone Barns is just about 30 minutes from Stamford. Extensively discussed on this board so I won't go into it, but indisputably a "special occasion" restaurant in a beautiful setting.

I agree with Ocean 211, it is romantic, the owner is a sweetheart and the food is very good. They still make tableside Cesar salads!

with all due respect, to include Paradise with the other recos is a long putt at best. P does have a great view and is a scene with the younger crowd but unless there has been a complete change of ownership and business model the food is good bar food at best (being generous here as well).

Since this is a wedding present (but we don't know the budget)....
Pricey: Henkelman, Valbella, Jean-Louis, (all Greenwich), Ocean 211 (Stamford)
Mid Price: Columbus Park Trattoria (Stmd), Oceana (S.Norwalk) Applausi (Old Grwch), Palomino (Old Grwch), Ku (Sushi in Greenwich), Buy them a dinner boat ride with Fjord Fisheries (Greenwich)
