40th Birthday

  • 8

A fun, non-usual, special way to celebrate with my friends. Any ideas?

  1. I just suffered through my own 40th a few months ago. We went to the Algonquin for cocktails and then to Town for dinner. It was midweek and I didn't want to go crazy.

    Not a bad itinerary.

Yeah...I'm not really feeling it, but hope that will change...thanks for the suggestion...

A Voce is currently one of my favorite restaurants. Not over the top but a nice dining experience by Mad Sq Park. They're serving food outside now also.

you may as well get into it! The alternative is not at all attractive! ;>0

Are you thinking big and splashy place? Maybe EMP or Del Posto? or small and intimate? Prune???

What are your requirements besides great food and wine? Cru is a great place for a celebration!

I don't know what my requirements are...I just don't want the same old same old...something memorable. I'll check out your suggestions, thanks!

When I read your o.p., I was going to ask what "fun, non-usual" meant to *you* since that can mean something different to different people. To someone who rarely goes to a high-end restaurant, dining at Eleven Madison, Veritas, or Del Posto would definitely not be "same old same old," but not unusual for someone who patronizes those kinds of places all the time.

If you have the budget, you might want to consider renting a space and, since you were born in 1967, throwing a party with a 1960's theme, i.e., food and music of that era, guests in "period costume," etc.

This never disappoints... http://www.worldyacht.com/ This should cover fun and non-usual as per your request.
