Babbo has too many reservation rules!!

I Phoned the restaurant yesterday to get the "411" on their reservation policy. They suggest I show up in "person" the morning of the 30 calendar day timeframe to ensure a reservation for my special occasion dinner. Nevermind that I live 2 hrs. away.....
Then I was advised that for a party of six, they would only reserve a table between 5:30 and 6:30. Think I'll save myself alot of trouble and find somewhere else to take my group.
I am very disappointed, but there's alot of other great places in NYC.

    1. showing up in person isn't a rule, but a suggestion. It is an incredibly popular restaurant, and rightly so, so its difficult to get through on the phone at 10am. The table for 6, thats a different story... It still wouldn't hurt to try at 10am exactly 30 days before and see if you can get a table for 6 at a decent hour.

      1. You definitely do NOT have to show up in person at Babbo to get a good reservation. The person on the phone only advised you to do this, but its not mandatory. Every time I have gotten a reservation there, I have called up on the phone 30 days in advance and gotten a reservation. Its really not that difficult. Its kind of funny that people are always freaking out about it on this board.

I actually just called for reservations recently and found it very difficult. I called exactly 30 days in advance to reserve for this Saturday night (first time, I'm psyched). I started calling at 10 am and the line was completely busy until about 11:30, when the only seating they had left was 10:30 p.m.

Again, I'm excited I got any reservation, but I could see how this could put people off.

Agreed. I've called and gotten through and I've called and NOT gotten through. Either way, hanging up, calling again, hanging up, calling again... it is frustrating and ridiculous. And you know you are fighting concierges and other companies who have like 10 lines all on automated redial systems. Little old me on verizon cell has a snowball's chance of getting through.

I LOVE BABBO but the reservation game is a dismal lot.

        2. I don't believe that is true. We were a party of 6 and obtained a 8:30pm reservation at Babbo about a month ago. Granted, it was for a Sunday evening but I've never heard of Babbo restricting large parties to 5:30 and 6:30pm dining times.

I also tried to get a reservation for 6. They have a tables available between 5:30 and 6:30, but also around 9:30, I believe.

You definitely do not have to show up in person. I got a reservation after dialing frantically for 20 minutes after the lines opened up at 10am. But I KNOW that it will be worth it!

          2. Thanks for the postings; maybe I shouldn't give up. This was my husband's choice for his "60th" birthday. Dinner at 9:30 is not an option for us so I'll shoot for the 6:30 time slot. If not, I will move on. I guess the redial button and I will be very good friends by the end of the day. :)
