Info - La Vie in Rosemead

Hi,
Has anyone been here recently? What's good to order and are reservations needed? I'm planning to go this weekend and any opinions will be greatly appreciated. I've always passed by and this will be my first time trying it. Thanks.

Only thing I've had there that disappointed was an overcooked roast pork special. Duck, rabbit, sweetbreads, steaks and fish have always been very good. I agree that it's kind of annoying getting the same damn carrots and broccoli or whatever no matter what you order, but that's one thing that helps to keep the prices down - and for this kind of food, cooked as well as it is, this place is a real bargain.

Generally, no reservations needed if you go early, before 6 or 6:30, but during peak dinner hours, you should.

I love their escargot and definitely order the souffle (do that before the meal as it takes a while). I like their prime rib and their shrimp and scallop.

Thanks for your input everyone! The primb rib sounds yummy, do they have chocolate souffle? This site always gets me hungry.

reservations are highly recommended as it does fill up during peak dinner hours on weekends. i like escargots to start, then veal, lamb, or sweetbreads (all the entrees are good!), finish with bananas caribbean or fresh berries with cream.

Haven't been in over a year, but remember it as competently done French by Vietnamese cooks. No real big surprise as rumors swirl that several French restaurants now have Vietnamese chefs lurking in the kitchen. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was that all the entrees come with the same vegetables. We've had the filet mignon, lamb, and fish(I think sole)and we've enjoyed them. La Vie is a crazy value for decent French fare in the most unlikely of places!
