Detroit area--chicken, lemon, and rice soup

What is the best restaurant in the Detroit metro area for this yummy soup?

  1. Where have you had this soup? I don't believe I've seen it anywhere that I've been (which isn't to imply that it doesn't exist). I've had lemon rice soup, at Giorgio's and M&M Cafe (both good), but these are vegetarian.

Pretty much any Greek restaurant or coney island has it standard. Also called avgolemono. Some have actual pieces of chicken, some do not, but are made from a chicken stock.

I like it at the Parthenon on Ford Rd. at the Southfield FWY in Dearborn, by Target.

My husband enjoys that soup at Kerby's on Haggerty around 8 mile.

Most likely then, Giorgio's and M&M cafe's lemon rice soups are not vegetarian.

      2. Hercules at 12 Mile and Farmington Rd. - northeast corner - in Farmington Hills has an excellent Greek version. Al Oumara, at Maple and Farmington Rd - also northeast corner has a somewhat different version - Middle Eastern - that is worth a visit. Their crushed lentil soup is excellent too. They make some of the best Mid East food in the area.

        1. If you want some outstanding LEMON CHICKEN RICE SOUP go to the Friars Resturant on 12 and Ryan in Warren, it is fabulous, plus they have an neverending bowl deal on all of their 14 or 16 soups for I believe 6.50 and you can change soups if you like

          1. You’ve got to try the lemon rice soup at Leo’s Coney Island at Schoolcraft and Middlebelt, near the Home Depot. While you’re at it order the Spinach Pie, grilled, with a side of Tzatziki Sauce. Both are homemade by the owner! Other Leo’s have it but this is the best around.

            1. I really like Greek Isle version, it's thick with egg yolk, heavy on the chicken, and very flavorful.
