Recommend a carniceria for marinated carne asada in SGV

i'm having a bbq potluck type thing and i want to bring some nice marinated carne asada to grill. does anyone have recommendations? i live near san gabriel/rosemead/el monte so i'm interested in those areas.

Try Gonzalez Northgate Market. There are several, but the one we go to is in West Covina. Pick up some of their beans, too!

Wow, I just made a post about the best marinated Asada. I tried these other places in a taste test but El Caney does it best! If you really want to have some fun try buying from the places mentioned and El Caney. Do a blind taste test at your party and I am sure all will agree that El Caney is best.

Sounds fantastic! I need to check that out soon. Home-cooked carne asada is SO much better than any taco place. My favorite marinated asada so far is at Alhambra Market

La Pradera on Santa Anita Ave., just south of the 10 freeway in El Monte, has the best marinated asada I've ever had.

i'm sure it's not the greatest, but when I was living in SGV, we'd go to the Temple City Ranch Market on Temple City Blvd/Lower Azusa. Although they are chinese owned, they still have a carneceria. their carne asadas weren't bad but it was the pollo asado (marinated chicken) that we loved. at times it can be salty, but damn, that's some good grilled chicken. $2.99/lb for chicken $5.99 for carne.... they have salsa/guac too.

funny you mention that because i go there occasionally and i live right by the market but have never thought of looking for mexican items

The butchers there are Mexican-American. They also stock some Mexican cheeses. Besides, it's right next to El Monte, which has a huge Mexican-American population.

IMO La Predera has the best Guacamole, El Caney has the best marinated Asada and Los Toros has the best Chips and Salsa. We have done that drive so many times.

I have not tried the others mentioned, but La Pradera has been my go-to place...and I travel from WLA. As mentioned, the Guacamole it great too.

You're in luck. Los Toros on the corner of San Gabriel & Garvey...they got the best. Just had some at a bbq on Saturday from there. Chicken is good too.
