Spot shrimp: Hood Canal

We're headed to the Alderbrook area this weekend, and I had heard that the spot shrimp are in season. First of all, can anyone confirm that? Also, does anyone know of any fresh seafood shacks or roadside fisherman who sell the shrimp to passersby, or is it something that needs to be enjoyed in restaurants?

  1. Yes, it's shrimp season: the season opens May 5 for very short season of recreational shrimping - this is mostly private folks in their boats, putting down their cat food-filled pots to garner their 80 shrimp limit. Quite a fun show on the canal. That said, it can be quite frustrating to see all those shrimp coming in, and you have no access to them! So get in your car and head to the Skokomish reservation (Potlach) and go to Patti's Seafood - they have lots of fresh shrimp. Look for other signs along 101 and see what you find. The private shrimpers can't sell their shrimp, so I've found it's best to head to the Potlach area.

Can't find anything about Patti's Seafood by googling. Do you by chance have any additional information?

        Oh, it's Patty's not Patti's. Sorry about that! Here's the info: Patty's Seafood - Potlatch. 19670 N. Hwy 101, Potlatch, WA. Phone: 360-877-5182.

It's on the canal (east) side of 101, well marked shop so it's easy to find.

Thank you so much! Sounds like a good field trip! :-)

    2. Some friends of ours recently picked up live spots from Central Grocery in Mill Creek, however we have not been able to find them.
