Peter Lugers - Anything vegetarian?

Yes, it is a little pointless to go to Lugers for non-steak, but my boyfriend wants to head there for his birthday, and I eat fish, but not red meat or poultry. Anyone tried anything there I can eat?

Thanks!

yes they do have non-steak items. but it's very limited. if you want to see the menu go to www.menupages.com and type in the restaurant name. This is a good source for looking up a lot of menus for NYC restaurants and other major cities.

People I've known who ordered the salmon really enjoyed it.

Warning- the salmon is great if you are with a non-ideological vegetarian- but if you are with an ideological one, they will be miserable. The smell of animal permeates the place, that beautiful smell of ex-cow which has gone on to achieve its highest purpose, in my plate. Be warned.

thanks for the heads up! Maybe we can do a birthday dinner then in that case...I'll check it out.

I took my fiance to the PL in Great Neck last weekend. I also do not eat red meat, but had a nice enough meal with the salmon and tomato and onions. The piece of salmon was quite large and grilled with butter. It was a really enjoyable experience, and while neither of our food was out of this world, it sure was fun.

i wouldn't recommend subjecting a serious vegetarian to lugers- though there are some foods for them (creamed spinach, potatoes, tomatoes and onions, shlage...), there is no pleasure for a vegetarian in watching so much carnivory! if they are a less serious vegetarian, or a fish-etarian, then lugers will be fine. the salmon can be delicious there. but lugers is all about meat- steak and bacon, period. everything else is just window dressing for the main event...

BTW, Peter Luger in Great Neck serves lobster, prepared anyway you want, a nice option for a vegetarian like the O.P. I think it was $35 for a two pounder.

i don't eat meat - do eat fish. whenever i've had to go there, always get the shrimp cocktail, creamed spinach, and baked potato. and they're all really, really good.

Lobsters are $15 (and above) retail. If Luger's has got 2 pounders for $35 that's a real bargain and I'm heading over there.

Don't run. When I was there last week, it was $77.50 for the lobster.

Sorry for my mistake, I just called them, they said $72 and the lobsters are 2 1/4 to 21/2 lbs..
