Pourquoi Pas on Sheppard?

TorontoJo Apr 29, 2007 03:59 PM

Just noticed this little house on Sheppard, a block or so West of Yonge. The sign reads "Pourquoi Pas, French Restaurant". Never heard of it. Any first-hand experiences from 'hounds at this place? How long has it been around? Is it worth a visit? TIA...

I can't tell you anything about it now, but they've been there for, possibly, 30 years. I'm really surprised they didn't sell out to a developer years ago! It was a lovely little place way back when, but disappeared of the radar long ago.

I went there three years ago - it was fine for a weeknight 'bistro' experience...

Cozy, romantic interior. Service excellent especially when owner is around. However, food is only mediocre, your typical French bistro cooking eg., Canard a l'orange, Coq au vin etc. Nothing really stand out.

It's funny how all the replies thus far are all a similiar pattern (including mine)...

My wife and I went there once about 5 years ago, I can't even recall what we had. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough such that we made a return trip. I'm surprised it's still operating after all these years..... so there must be some loyal returning customers .

We used to live in the area, which is why we went. So yes, it was a lot of locals. It was okay for a Wednesday night when you didn't feel like cooking.

I went their twice and had fairly decent meals, especially the pepper steak. The third time it was fairly poor.

Thanks, everyone, for the responses. I guess that I will not rush out to try the place. But I will keep it in mind for that night when we don't want to cook and we run out of other options.

            Cheers!

This restaurant has been closed for more than a year now. Pity it was a nice place to go.
