I have been asked by friends to bring a pound cake as my contribution to a dinner party they are organizing. I don't have time to make one, so any suggestions as to the brand I should buy or a store where I can find a decent one? TIA.

Then I would try the bakery section at Whole Foods; their stuff is usually pretty good - a lot of it brought in from different bakers - and they're likely to have something like a pound cake.

There is a great bakery on the north side of Danforth between Pape and Chester Stations. I believe it's called The Sweetest Thing or something very close to that. Can't go wrong, be sure to try a few of their other amazing treats while you're there. I especially reccommend the Croissant Bread Pudding.

That could be it. Sorry, I was just walking by and was lured in by samples. Sweet was definitely in the title, so that is probably it. You walk in and the right hand side is an overflowing counter of treats, then you go past some breads to a little sitting area in the back. Does that sound right?
