Restaurants round Rye

Now that the tourist season is nearly here, people may appreciate an opinion on food in and around Rye. We had a really excellent unpretentious meal using local produce at the Landgate Bistro in Rye: new season garlic soup, two red mullet fillets sandwiched together with lemon zest and marjoram leaves, interesting salad leaves. At about the same price as a distinctly unpleasant pub dinner in the New Inn in Winchelsea (pretty little town though). Pilgrims in Battle, despite being in a lovely 16th century building and bang next door to the abbey gatehouse (most UK restaurants in tourist spots are dire) gave us a delicious light lunch.

    Phew.

Glad you enjoyed Landgate & Pilgrims. Always a relief when you've given a recommendation and it pays off.
