Any recommendations for good breakfast/lunch places off I-495 Exits 40-64?

If you get off at exit 39 (okay, I admit it's one exit off, but worth it) and go north on Glen Cove Road, you'll come to a strip mall on your left that has a deli in it called Kitchen Kabaret. This is a truly gourmet deli/market with pizzas, sushi, salads, sandwiches, all of which are excellent. It also has a coffee bar and a seating area.

I think it is the first strip mall on your left, but I'm not positive.

Try Rainbow Cookie Café at 3147 Rte. 112, Medford, 631-451-7115. Better than its name might imply. Omelettes and pancakes are good.

Not exactly off the LIE but not that far and in the east-west range you specified is Maureen and Daughters Kitchen on Terry Road in Smithtown. Absolutely worth the few extra miles. I can't recommend it highly enough. http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/...

Have eaten there. Share your opinion of the place. Excellent pancakes. Only downside is the limited hours.

Maureen's is terrific for breakfast, and their lunches are excellent. Bring your appetite.

Anyone know anything of a sushi place in Hauppauge called Kotobuki?

I've heard they're the best sushi on Long Island and keep meaning to get there to try it myself. They also have a branch in Babylon village.

My favorite sushi place on Long Island, by far. Only about 5 minutes north of Exit 57 on the LIE. This place is truly excellent, ranked #1 by Zagats for all Long Island restaurants last year, for what that's worth. Defintely chow-worthy, open for lunch. Sushi for two is a great deal.

Thanks for the directions, it's so confusing around there!
I fear driving around for an hour looking for it.

Coll, get off at Exit 57 and head north on Vet's Highway (Rte 454) about 4 lights to the intersection with Rte. 347 east. Go east on 347 for about 1/4 mile and Kotobuki is in the ShopRite shopping center on your right. The sign just says "Sushi," no name.

I guess now I'll be going in the very near future, I can't wait. I heard there's an assortment platter for about $50 which is great for takeout?

There's "sushi for two" which is about $60 now and includes soup and an appetizer. Huge assortment of fish and rolls.

A couple of weeks ago Newsday did a story about restuarants just off the LIE. Here is the link:

Wow, I'm impressed, they even named some of the hot dog trucks that park on the service road! I always get out-of-towners asking me where they are.
