Want to take my girlfriend out for a nice meal, but don't want to break the bank (West LA)

Hi.

I'm looking to take my girlfriend out for a romantic meal either Friday or Saturday night of this week.

I'm booked at Locanda Veneta for Friday, but would like something a bit cheaper.

Not too big on wine, probably a cocktail or 2 each. I'd prefer entrees to start in the mid-to-high teens rather than mid-to-high 20's.

As far as cuisine, I'm not too particular, we're pretty adventurous eaters. I really like lighted outside patios, but am not bent on it.

Anyway, let me know your suggestions... I'm sure you have some good ideas.

If you're willing to go a little more eastward, Opus on Wilshire and Vermont has probably the best tasting menu in Los Angeles for the price at $30, $60, and $90, and the restaurant is very nicely appointed.

How about Nook Bistro, or is that too casual?

Violet on Pico may be a good choice for your needs: small plates, very good reasonably inventive food; very reasonable prices and it can be romantic if you need it to be, though the room can get a bit "active."

I second Violet. Orris would also be a good bet.
