Monsoon Cafe?

David Kahn Apr 26, 2007 02:17 PM

Am going to an event organized (not by me) at the Monsoon Cafe on the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica. Am I going to hate it? Where should I set my expectations? Is there anything I absolutely should or should not order? TIA hounds.

I've only been there for their sushi happy hour, which was predictably bad: big, messy rolls that fell apart when I tried to eat them made with subpar fish. I've heard other people on this board say that they like it, though, so hopefully it won't be that bad.

I have been there for a few events. Its not bad...could be worse. Nothing really sticks out about what to order or what not to.

Everything is mediocre there. You won't hate it, but you'll forget most of it. Well, you might hate some of it. I remember their fried rice was way, way overcooked to the point where it was virtually fried mush. Other than that, everything was meh...

My advice is to go super-simple and with low expectations on the food. Their cocktails are usually very well-done, so if you like, indulge yourself on these.
