Face Cake!

SauceSupreme Apr 26, 2007 09:22 AM

Anyone who's seen Scrubs knows what I'm talking about: I'm looking for a bakery that can transfer a photograph of someone onto the top icing layer of the cake. Anyone know where I can get such a cake?

Angel Maid does it. Get a cake size bigger than the pic, bc no one will want to slice through the picture. :)

Porto's does indeed provide this service. Price depends on the type of cake.
I just had a custom cake made this weekend for a graduation. It was a chocolate devils food cake with strawberry fruit filling and a buttercream frosting. It was so fresh and delicious. Total for a quarter sheet: $45.

I know Victor Benes does, but it might cost more than pocket change - alot more...
Angel Maid in Mar Vista does it as well - don't know what the charge is.

I believe alot of bakeries offer this but the work is often contracted out. If you have any favorite local bakeries, I'd bet a call to a few of them would result in some hits...

When I tried to get this done last year, every grocery store bakery I went to said, "Oh, we do that, but our machine's broken." It was utterly amazing to me how every one of those machines decided to go on the blink at once...anyway, I wound up paying the guy at the Baskin-Robbins next to Carmine's in South Pas to make the transfer, then took it to the Ralphs at Walnut and North Lake. Don't know why I never even thought of Gelson's...

I believe that Ruby's Bakery in Eagle Rock does them. Their cakes are delicious, too!

We got a photo cake from Hansen's a few months ago. It looked and tasted great. The hit of the party.

Right after, a friend got one from Hansen's. By mistake, they airbrushed the image onto the cake instead of using the phototransfer. By the time he picked up the cake, it was too late to do anything about it. Looked more like a characature than a photo.

P.S. I hear that Porto's does them too, for probably 1/3 the price.

I think Thee's Bakery in the Original Farmers Market makes them.

I'm sure I saw it at Carvel in West LA

the victor benes bakeries in gelsons do it -- I think most of the bakeries in grocery stores do it.

Cost Co might even do that. I think Ralph's and Von's and Albertson's all do.

I've seen this offered at Ralph's grocery store bakery. The Great Dane in Huntington Beach and Los Alamitos also does this, if that's geographically desirable for you.

                                Hansen's perhaps?
