Orujo

I've been searching high ' low for the spirit from Spain called Orujo in NYC. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just found it on line at Planet of Wine in NJ (planetofwine.com). The brand is Marcdebazan Aguardiente de Orujo at $21.99 before shipping costs. First time I have found it in NYC area or elsewhere for that matter...

Up here in Mass. it is much easier to find excellent Portuguese Aguardente (same as grappa or Orujo) for very reasonable $. I am sure if you went to Newark you would find some.

Last time I got some the regular was about $17 a liter and $25 a liter for some fancy aged aguardente de bagaceira in a groovy clay bottle.

I have seen them in NYC here and there. Not recently, but I haven't been looking for eau-de-vie / grappa much lately. Look in the eau-de-vie / grappasection or ask for Spanish eau-de-vie / grappa and that may help your search. I will keep an eye out for them and let you know if I see some.

Thanks. I espeicalluy like the Miel Orujo from Potes. If you can't be in the mountains might as well drink as if you're in 'em...

do you remember which brands or which stores carried it? a search on winesearcher.com shows the closest orujo to us is sold in puerto rico and none are listed in the beverage media for new york (although small companies tend to be listing fewer and fewer items as southern and empire take over the state).

I've never seen it in the US.

orujo is just what the spanish call grappa. as far as i know, there are no orujos available in new york, but plenty of grappas and a few marcs.
