Vegas - B&B Ristorante last Thursday

It turned out that friends of ours from New Jersey were indeed in Vegas for the NAB, so they joined us for dinner at B&B last Thursday. I called Wednesday night and was easily able to switch. The restaurant officially opened on April 16th according to one of the bartenders, but obviously they were open prior to that. I didn't take notes but I did take some pictures which I will attempt to attach. I was more focused on conversation with our friends since we don't get to see them often, living at opposite ends of the country, so this report is going to be deficient on details, sorry.

Husband and I sat at the bar and shared a martini while waiting for our friends to arrive. You could tell that the employees were new, still getting the kinks out, nothing major, though I did hear crashing glass a couple of times during the evening.

Our server was really personable and professional and I think the service was fine (someone on another thread mentioned service issues).

The food was quite delicious. Luckily I can read from the online menu. I started with the warm lamb's tongue vinaigrette with chanterelles and a 3-minute egg. This was just a totally luscious dish. The server gently sliced the egg open after it was served. This should be the first picture below. However, I don't have any real recollection of chanterelles. The lamb's tongue was outstanding in flavor and texture. I would have this again in a second. My husband started with Armandino's salumi, very simple and nice. Our friends had calamari & seppi fritti, and steamed clams. Both preparations looked nice but I didn't sample.

My husband and I shared a pasta next, and then a secondi. Our friends didn't get a pasta but they each had a secondi. Our pasta was the bucatini all'Amatriciana with guanciale, hot pepper and pecorino. We chose this because we had it or something very similar at Lupa on our last trip to New York last fall, and we loved it. Again we loved it. The pasta was very al dente, the sauce was rich from the guanciale and spicy from the peppers. Superb. This should be the second picture.

For secondi, ours was the calamari in the Sicilian lifeguard style. When we asked what that meant, the server said that it was Mario's conception of how surfers in Sicily eat. Whatever. It was delicate rings atop Israeli couscous in a fairly spicy sauce that contained habanero oil, olives, caper berries. Again, delicious. This should be the third picture. One of our friends had the brasato al barolo with porcini mushrooms (described as short ribs) over which was grated some fresh horseradish, and our other friend had a fish, salmon I think, which I don't see on the menu.

Desserts were a little ricotta cheesecake for our friends, and a bittersweet chocolate something with sabayon sauce for my husband which should be the fourth picture. I was trying not to pay too much attention to dessert because I'm severely limited on the carbs I can have right now, due to some medication I'm taking, hopefully only for a few weeks more. I had all the carbs I was supposed to have, and then some, with my half portion of pasta and a few bites of couscous. I also had to forego the bread but everyone seemed to enjoy it and the olive oil that accompanied it was quite grassy and a little bitter, very interesting flavor. We had a couple of quartinos of red wine which were nicely served.

As to price, the total including tax but pre-tip was around $300, for two cocktails, two quartinos of wine, a diet coke, a coffee, and all the food mentioned. We enjoyed B&B quite a lot and will definitely plan to return.

    Thanks for the review. Their menu reminds me of Babbo. It is nice to have a Baabo on the west.
