private room for 50 sixteen year olds

I need an a-typical private room in a restaurant or space to throw a 16th birthday party...more of a dinner party than a sweet 16, she wants it funky and different and not ultra formal. Under $50 a head for 50-60 of her friends. Open to all manhattan neighborhoods. Any ideas?

  1. 16 year olds are so picky...did she specify what type of food she's looking for?

she is vegetarian to add further fuel to the fire...so i was thinking italian or asian. It's for a family friend's daughter but I was stumped when she asked me for help.

Oh boy! Well...what about: Gonzo, Fred's at Barney's, Beyoglu, Fig & Olive...
I'll try and think of more. This is a challenge!!

We threw a big party on the 2nd floor of BLT Fish when it was the old AZ and Patricia Yeo was the the chef. Had a fantastic experience.

    2. Ellen's Stardust Diner has a retro-50's theme which your friend's daughter might regard as different and funky. She might even consider making it a "costume" party and asking guests to come dressed in clothing of that period. There are several packages for groups, all very moderately-priced, and your friends could include vegetarian options on their chosen menu.

      1. Jane on Houston also has a private room downstairs. Good food, veg. options, and sophisticated enough to wow teenagers.

        1. What about Max Brenner's in Union Square. A young 20-something friend of mine just had a very large birthday party there, and it was very very enjoyable. And what 16 year old wouldn't appreciate the all-chocolate, all-the-time theme? I can't say it was the best meal I've ever had, but I'm much more forgivng for large groups and there was far less to pick on than I had expected. In addition to all the variations on chocolate, they also have lots of crepes, and savory French toasts to complement the chocolatey goodness.
