Philippe's for Breakfast
I was just watching a rerun of Huell Howser's visit to Phillipes and had no idea that they served breakfast. I guess I should pay attention to the menu. The food looks great. Anyone been there for breakfast? What do you think?

Had been, a couple of times, though not recently.
I think they are OK - rather go to a chain like coco's for breakfast. I think one time I went late enough that I was able to order some breakfast stuff, turn around after eating that and ordered a sandwich to go. Think I'll rather have the lamb sandwich for breakfast than all the eggs/hash/bacon they serve.

In my experience their ham steak is far superior to that of The Pantry, which to my taste is watery and mealy and look and smells lots better than it can deliver. It's been a roll of the dice recently whether my eggs "up & easy" will actually be that way when they arrive at the table or not. The Pantry's fried potatoes reign supreme, IMO, but only if ordered "well done".

Yes, many, many times as I live in Silverlake ... a quick jump to Philippes!
My favorite is eggs and bacon and the renowned 10 cent cup of coffee. I buy the Sunday LA Times at the news counter first and spread out all over part of a table. It is a favorite Saturday or Sunday morning indulgence.
One thing I just discovered, but not tried, is a breakfast sandwich at Philippes. Someone else was ordering it but it looked great and gluttonous .... a French roll with eggs and a huge thick slice of ham.
