Visiting Wineries in Spain?

Hey everyone,
My fiance and I are traveling from Madrid, up through Ribera Del Duero and then spending a few days in San Sebastian. Any great wineries in Ribera del Duero that we should visit and/or stay at? We like nearly every Ribera we taste so any nice vineyard is fine. We're also looking for a great Asador where we can have some lamb or suckling pig with our Ribera. Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. Here are three to get you started:
      Alejandro Fernández
Castillo de Peñafiel -- huge Medieval castle, with a wine museum if you’re interested
      La Pesquera Winery

And yes, baby lamb is a speciality of the area.

San Sebastien, IMO, is one of the top five cities in the world for food. It's an enchanting smallish city too, easy to get around, right on the border with the Pyrennes, and I yearn to return. So many types of tapas/raciones/pintxos etc. The Basque are some of the world's great fisherman -- they do wonderful things with all sorts of seafood, especially hake. As a people, they are quite distinctive in looks, language and alphabet; read about their history. Be sure to check out the paradores, and the view from the fortress that overlooks the cove (pic below) -- take the funicular up. Local, lively white wine is txakoli.

You mentioned 3 places. What is the difference between Alejandro Fernandez (I assume that this is Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez) and La Pesquera Winery?

            1. re: RCC

Sorry...sleepiness muddled my brain...Alejandro Fernandez has two wineries:
Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez (Pesquera) and the newer Bodegas Condado de Haza.

The Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial bottlings are good and an almost perennial buy for us every vintage.
