Stand mixer -- how to get the rhythm?

I just ordered a reconditioned 5 cup "plus" Kitchenaid mixer from Amazon. It has a 450 watt motor and a lot of other good features. Anyway, I was thinking, if you are making something that requires more than one mixed thing, how do you do it with the stand mixer? Do you take what is in the bowl out, clean the blades, mix the second thing, and then put them back together? Do you have to resort to using your hand mixer in a different bowl to coordinate the ingredients? Do you have to buy a second KA mixer bowl? I hope I am asking this question clearly. Thanks!
Personally, I have two bowls........the stainless one that came with the mixer and a second, copper one........especially great for whipping cream. But I have been known to mix something up, put the ingredients into another bowl, clean the mixer bowl and flat beater or whip and start a second batch of ingredients for whatever I'm making. It's just a matter of being too lazy to unbury the copper bowl.
Yep, a second bowl is handy. You don't need a second set of blades, however, since they clean more quickly.
