Lunch Buffet at The Norwegian Seamen's Church?

I did a search and all that came up was an unanswered question from 3 years ago.

Has anyone tried the buffet recently and what do you think? It's served only on Wednesday's from September to May:

  1. Don't worry el jefe, I'll have an answer for you tomorrow. Hopefully going to catch the last lunch of the year though.

    1. Right. It was awesome. If you like smoked fish, check this out. It was insane. They had 3 types of smoked salmon, numerous varieties of potato/pasta salad type things, pickled herring, some sort of wacky pudding that was delicious and various cheeses including an insane cheese display that included Gjetost. Juices and soda available for drinks. Hot food special of the day included meatballs and what I think were steamed potatoes. The church was very nice. The crowd is mostly elderly and upscale looking. If it's crowded next time I'm there though I am going to shoot myself in the face for posting this positive note. They might be on hiatus now until September - we forgot to ask if it was through May or to May.

I just looked at their website, and it says that this week's (May 7) hot meal is stroganoff, so I assume it's running through May. Pretty cool! Where is it located? The website shows a photo of the street sign at 58th and 5th, but there's a Saveur article that says it's on E. 52nd.

ETA - found the answer to my own question - 52nd btw 1st and 2nd. I can't wait to give it a go!

This looks awesome, but I am having trouble with the site. Do you know times/prices or any other important info? Thanks

haha, yeah that's me. thanks for posting and not making me look self-promoting - its such a fine line and I just want to spread the word!

so, in the past, it's been 17 or 18 dollars flat. no tax, no tip.

Do you mean trouble with the site being that it is in Norwegian??? yeah, i had that too. The opening has been on my calendar since may. I called them this morning and they happily confirmed the lunch. Is there other trouble with seeing iwantmorefood???

I *think they are going to do it every week from now on, but I don't know for sure. If you're there, look for me. I will probably be the only one under 30 in the place. I love that stuff.

As someone constantly admonished by my editor to do "more outreach," I am only too happy to shill for others, when appropriate. I haaaaate self-promotion. Makes me feel filthy.

                    Also, that buffet sounds awesome.
