Ching's Famous Hopia Bakeshop, Union City report

hhc Apr 19, 2007 06:04 AM

I found out about this Filipino bakery only cuz I was going to the Cam Huong, sandwich shop next door. I love bakeries so had to take a look.

It's very clean and new looking. They've been open since Nov 2006.

They sell Asian style cakes--sponge cakes w/ fruit, custard, whatever you want and whipped cream frosting. Haven't tried them yet.

Famous for Hopia I had to try one. They have many flavors of these mooncakes. I asked the most popular are: mungbean, coconut. I got langka (jackfruit) which I thought was ok. Only .75 so worth trying..kinda small though.

I also got a small tub of mango pudding $3. She asked if I wanted cream and I said ok. She also put a topping of fresh mango. I thought it was pretty tasty.

I'll try the flan next time, but at $6.50 seemed kinda pricey.

If you want to use your credit card it must be over $10 here.

I saw mostly desserts there. They also sell fresh fruit smoothie drinks. Didn't see any other Filipino food. You can also call them: 510-487-6938

Stopped by there yesterday to find the door locked and empty shelves inside. We went into Cam Huong next door to check on the status and found out that Ching's is out of business.

the owner called me 2 weeks ago and they're cancelling my cake order and since they no longer have a baker, they had to close the family-owned business. Too bad since I really enjoyed their service as well as the products they sell.
