Okay, I've had a few tortas in my day and some quite good in Mexico City, but this place Tortas Las Glroias was the best I've had in a long time (of course I am now in Upstate NY so WTF?). In a mini small off Mount Vernon in Colton, I got a torta con carnitas, a beautifully made torta with the carnitas tender and perfectly salty, topped with lettuce, onions, cilantro and just enough avocado --the kind that just melts in your mouth. I also got a ton of condiments--pickled jalapenos, although they have the toasted ones too, and carrots and onions, but I was too busy with this torta. I washed it down with a pineapple coke, but my buddies had brought in from next store wonderfully tasting liquados de fresas--strawberry shakes--that were so damning I would have cried to have one, they were that good.

I didn't have to eat the rest of the day.

Tortas Las Glorias (909) 370-1320, 1197 N. Mt. Vernon Ave Colton, CA

Went back to the Torta House during my Coachella adventure--tried the milanesa--depressing. It was tough and chewy (not many places make it well). But my partner's veggie-tarian torta looked (and tasted) fabulous. Ask for extra jalapenos. And the liquados were delicious. Too bad there was no air conditioning that day!
