I have The Best Light Recipe. I've made a few things and they have been good.

    2. I was thinking about the grilling one, but I am not sure I don't own any of their books..

      1. As an FYI, it appears that by buying a book via this link, you would be joining some sort of book club which would require you to decline a book via postcard else you would receive it and be billed accordingly. Worth being aware of prior to purchase...

        From the link:
"Automatic Preview Privileges: As a valued member of the Best Recipe cookbook series, you'll be among the first to preview cookbooks as they are released, no more than two to three times each year. We will send you a notification postcard in advance of each cookbook. You may decline your preview copy by returning our notification postcard within 30 days. Otherwise, you will receive your preview copy at our lowest prevailing price plus shipping and handling. If you ever receive an unwanted cookbook, return it at our expense. You may cancel at any time."

Whoa! That is brutal, what a load of crap, well done to read the fine print.

I **knew** there had to be a catch! Those ATK/CI promos are devious...

Devious nature aside, what do people think about Baking Illustrated?

            1. re: Carb Lover

I have had Baking Illustrated for a few years and have only used it once. However, this is more likely due to my life situation (grad school, too many roommates, yucky apartment kitchen) than any lacking on the part of the cookbook. I will say that Baking Illustrated has some of the most hilarious "failed baked good" pictures I've ever seen in my life and is perhaps worth buying just for those.

The Sour Cream Coffee Cake (which I made from a CI magazine) is excellent, as are the brownies.

              1. re: maillard

There's almost nothing in Baking Illustrated that isn't in Best New Recipe, as far as I can tell anyway. I haven't done an exhaustive comparison, but I use Best New Recipe all the time and I'm not sure I've actually ever used Baking Illustrated.

          2. Go to and get almost any book (okay some are gently used, but others are brand spanking new)... for 1/2 price or even less.
