Why are the Shake Shack burgers so salty this year?

Okay I dont want to start a big thing and hear people saying the shake is overrated or not etc. I have loved the Shake since the day it opened up 2 blocks away from me and look forward to it's opening each year.

However, this year is a little different. I got my first burger on the soft opening day and it was good but I noticed it was a little bit saltier than I had remembered. I asked my SO what he thought and he said he didn't notice anything different. I had another 2 days later and it seemed like it was better- salty but not too bad.

Since then I have been back 3 times and each time it was overly salty again. So much so that tonight when my SO took his first bite he even exclaimed "wow this is super salty!" I was at least glad that he noticed finally. Has anyone else or am I just getting some bad showings?

You know, after hearing the most amazing things about these burgers...I finally went tonight at 10:30 PM....no line. I wen to the one on 77th. I was very excited. I got the Shake Shack double. I also got a chocolate shake. I took my first bite all ready to be blown away by this brisket infused burger. It was VERY salty. I thought maybe it was because I was drinking the shake with it. So I cleansed my pallet with some water. Nope. I could not believe how salty and average the burger tasted. VERY DISAPPOINTED! I then thought maybe G-d was punishing me for mixing milk and meat. Who knows! I wanted to love it, but really did not even like it at all! Way too salty and not that flavorful. Very strange considering how everyone loves this place. In Manhattan I much prefer 5 Guys. And for the best burger I have ever had in my life... I go to the Piper's Kilt in Eastchester (westchester county).

I agree with your opinion of SS...The burger is fine, but I just never understood the hype. I was really expecting to be blown away...Perhaps I need to give it another chance.

I too have noticed a little bit more salt in the patty, but mostly on the edges. I don't mind it all that much, and to me, it was very slight.

I haven't been yet this year, but the one I had in the fall was a bit too salty for my taste as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the flavor of the burger, but there was too much pure saltiness. That really sucks to hear.

I figured they were just going for a more "seasoned" patty. They do taste a little bit saltier, but it hasn't affected the quality IMO.

Shake Shack burgers are always oversalty. That is why they are also overrated. I much prefer the Burger Joint, Blue 9 Burger, or even the Spotted Pig to the Shake Shack.
