italian in palo alto?

the BF and i are looking for an alternative to our favorite italian place in palo alto which is osteria. we love it but it's sometimes hard to get a reservation especially when we decide last minute we want to go...which is usually the case.

i haven't yet tried other italian places in the area - or surrounding area for that matter. any recs?

the BF is threatening with olive garden so i hope to find a #2 soon!

I think the best Italian food in that area is actually in neighboring Menlo Park.
Carpaccio's is fantastic. A little bit old school elegant; as in you can get a quality martini here - but it is the food that sparkles. Try the spaghetti and meatballs. A simple but extraordinary dish. The meatballs are killer. (I think veal is the secret). The polenta is sublime. And of course eat lots of carpaccio.
