Fried chicken at Bob's
Some of you may have seen that Bob the Chef's (sorry, I don't think they should have changed their name to Southern Bistro and don't like their blue sign that makes them look like a laundromat) is celebrating being in business for 50 years. They're offering their chicken dishes for $7.99 w/ two sides and a corn muffin. I chose white meat chicken and it was really good. Meat wasn't dried out and I really enjoyed it since I don't eat fried chicken goodness too often. The waiter said he didn't like the looks of the mac & cheese so I got great mashed potato w/ gravy on the side and some okay collard greens (not an expert). Corn muffin was good. I ate everything on my plate, no doggy bags last nite, plus I got sweet potato pie. Not the best I've ever had, seemed like there were too many spices in it and had a very molasses flavor maybe. It was almost like eating Indian pudding. Only $3.50 tho which is cheap for dessert these days. Friend had a fried chicken/rib combo plate for about $16 and beer from Louisiana. Service was good on a fairly quiet, crappy Tues. nite. I think the place is cute and love their catfish so I may have to go back before another 5.5 years pass (last time was a benefit for 9/11 and I was interviewed by Ch. 4 news).
On the way home, I noticed that Alex's Chimis on Centre St. has totally renovated and instead of being a dark, dingy little place is glaringly bright white. Quite a contrast.
