Roberto's besides their gelato
I just happened to pass by Roberto's on Monday of this week(they're closed on Mondays). How's the food at Roberto's? Usually I only go there for their Italian gelato, & get nothing else. From checking out their menu, it looks interesting. One dish, slow roasted piglets looks very tempting.
I had dinner there a while back, and it was very nice - I was with a group of about 12 people, and we ordered a pretty varied selection of menu items, all of which were pretty good (I had the osso bucco). Food was good quality, portions were huge (although this is not a plus in my books), prices were quite reasonable considering, and although others raved about the desserts, there was no way, after managing only half of my dinner, that I could attempt another bite...It's Italian comfort food (I actually went there on the recommendation of an Italian friend of mine, who was with our group that evening).
Roberto restaurant was last Saturday's fine dining review in the Montreal Gazette. This time reviewed by Brian Kappler(Lesley Chesterman's regular replacement when she's off). It got three stars(out of 4) by Brian.
Does anyone remember Robertos years and years before, when it was on the other side of the street, had no décor, served simple pasta dishes - as well as gelato, of course - and was a byob?
