Hot Midtown East/Upper East Re

Looking for a hot new-ish restaurant to take and impress clients in midtwon east (east of 6th) or Upper East Side (not Per Se) no sushi. Expesnse account, so price no object. Any ideas?

Insieme in the Michaelangelo Park Hotel *just* opened this week. I haven't been, but it's by the same folks as Hearth, a well-respected restaurant.

Also look into Daniel. It's not quite new, but I think it'd fit your requirements to a T. The food is good (a little self consciously schmancy, but I think you want that), the space is beautiful.

The Modern might also work, though it's also been open for at least a year, I think. The space is very nice. Many people love the menu. Excellent cocktails.

Ditto for Midtown Megu (open for I think about a year and David Burke and Donatella. Impressive spaces. I like the menus, though they get mixed reviews.

Le Bernardin is just west of 6th (by half a block).

Other expense account places to look into if you can waive the new requirement: Morrell Wine Bar, Vong, Sea Grille.

If you can go just slightly further south, Eleven Park Madison would be a good choice.

sfoglia on the upper east has been getting good reviews. i loved my lunch there! it is a small spot, very rustic...so depending on the type of business you're in and how chowish the clients are...it might be worth looking into. although, not really a business dinner type of place at all.

Depends on how foodie your clients are - but if price is no object, Robouchon, Ramsay at the London Hotel, Le Cirque at 58th & Lex?

I considered suggesting Ramsay, but the reason I decided against is that just about all the reports I've read have been less than enthusiastic about the food. And it would seem that Gordon Ramsay was non-too-pleased with the reception he's gotten since he replaced his chef. Tepid reviews as well re: the food at the current incarnation of Le Cirque.

Gilt is re-reviewed by Adam Platt in this week's "NY Magazine." He really likes what chef Christopher Lee is serving there and awards the restaurant 3 stars (out of 5). With Lee having taken over from Paul Liebrandt, I put Gilt in the "newish" category, so it may be another good option. (Note: In the same review, Platt also awards Gramercy Tavern 3 stars under new chef Michael Anthony. But, or course, G.T. is not in the o.p.'s requested geog. area. )

Well, if you're sticking precisely to your "east of 6th" geographical parameter, Per Se would be out anyway because it's on the west side. lol

One of the the newest impress-your-clients restaurants would certainly be Robuchon. Not in the Per Se class price-wise, but still quite expensive. I haven't been but the food appears to get pretty much universal praise.
