New taco truck on 38th, West Philly

There's a new small taco truck on 38th around Chestnut. They have tacos al pastor, which I know some people crave, and about 5 or 6 other things. Nothing vegetarian. They also make their own fresh horchata, nice and cinnamon-y. Thank you.

Thanks for the tip! I went there today and it was YUMMY. I had a taco al pastor and carnitas taco. Both were excellent. They are a little slow, but not many customers yet. They also have burritos, tortas, and tostadas, and today they had a quesadilla special. I will definitely go back.

Today the truck was at 38th and Sansom. I believe the name is Tacos del Memo. Got 2 tacos al pastor - they're definitely on the level of the ones at Los Taquitos de Puebla, which I love. My tacos had onion, cilantro, and thinly sliced pineapple, along with the shreds of pork, and came with two lime wedges to squeeze over. I think the hot sauce could stand to be a bit spicier, but I'm a spice fiend. Anyway, that's a minor concern, considering how good the pork was. They ask if you want the sauce ("hot", salsa verde(?), and "mild") on your food or on the side. Having those tacos seriously made my day.

Besides horchata, they serve homemade tamarindo, Jarritos (only mandarin and pina today), and some other bottled drinks I didn't look at. Today's specials were a mole burrito and some kind of quesadilla. I was too excited about the al pastor to pay much attention to the rest of the menu, but I definitely want to try the torta. Both of the guys there today were super friendly without any sketch factor.

Thanks for posting about this truck, Bride!

Oops - the name is Tacos Don Memo. The chicken torta has all sorts of good stuff in it, chicken milanesa, avocado, mayo, jalapeno, carrot, black bean, cheese, probably more stuff I'm forgetting. Seriously filling, for $5. Tasty bread too.

I asked, and the al pastor is not made on a spit but rather marinated and cooked on the grill. There's no room in that tiny truck (it's smaller than most food trucks) for a spit, but I swear I can't taste the difference.

I just tried to go to this truck today--and it wasn't there! I was craving good Mexican food. Anyone know where it is? I thought it was at 38th and Sansom--just saw Indian, Vietnamese, and Greek trucks there...

Hey Bride - it's true there's no vegetarian options on the Tacos Don Memo menu, but the owner told me that he does make vegetarian food if people ask for it. He said a lot of people order the burrito without any meat, even though that's not a listed choice.

Also for the people who were wondering about operating hours: they are there until 5pm every weekday, but are not there on weekends. He said they start cleaning up around 4pm, so I think that might be the latest you can order. I'm not sure, I've never been there that late.

Has the truck been around lately? I am heading to the city this week and may stop and try some but wanted to make sure it was still there.

            Thanks

Yes. I was there last Friday, and I've been going about once a week. I hope you get to try their food, it's one of my favorite places.

They're a little hard to locate, especially if you don't know the area - tips on finding them are here -

Do they have a phone number? I love this place but they take soooo long to prepare the food. I'd love to call in my order!

Try going outside of the 11:30-1ish lunch rush, if you can. They do have a phone, but they don't answer it when they're busy anyhow - and they always are during those hours. I'm not sure if he'd want his cell phone posted on a public message board. It seemed like he was a bit reluctant to give it out - ask nice.

Anyone know if this truck moved? It hasn't been there since the beginning of the semester and I'm missing it!
