lunch in Silver Lake today

I'm coming up from San Diego, and will be in Silver Lake at lunch time. Where to go? Price no issue; no special cuisine sought. Just the most enjoyable place to have a tasty lunch.

  1. Blair's, on Rownea, though you'll have to check to see if they are open on Mondays.

More casual: The Coffee Table, on Rowena also. Good sandwiches and salads. Or try Gingergrass for their (not-super-authentic-but-still-great) Vietnamese cuisine.

    1. El Caserio
309 N. Virgil Ave. /Silver Lake Blvd. in the strip mall off the 5 way intersection. Really good Ecuadorian/Italian food. My favorite is their Lomo Saltado (beef, onions, tomatoes and french fries on rice) and really good bread with REALLY spicy salsa.

Blair's is having some serious service issues right now as far as I can tell (for breakfast/lunch, not dinner). I'd try Dusty's on Sunset or Figaro Cafe on Vermont or Mustard Seed on Hillhurst. All are pretty casual, the last more so than the other two.

I second the Mustard Seed recommendation. Great lunch spot.

But the food is sooooo much better at Blair's that putting up with a few service problems, which others have mentioned yet I have yet to see too much of in my 3 visits, more than makes up for the difficiencies of either Dusty's or especially Figaro Cafe, which also suffers from service problems.

Dusty's -- most comfortable and biggest menu (with bar!)
              Blair's
Madame Matisse's (really good breakfast & lunch foods on Sunset)
              Mustard Seed
              Alcove on Hillhurst
Coffee Table IMHO has really gone down hill in the last few years....

Dusty's service is absolutely horrid! I remember numerous threads here on Chowhound about waiting forever to get waited on there, and I've had several experiences there myself. Last time I was there, two other tables walked out because they were so fed up. And the food is just okay.

i third the mustard seed cafe. awesome organic dishes. and 2 blocks south is a place called "there is no place like home", it's my fav sunday brunch for comfort food

I have always wanted to like Mustard Seed (especially when it was like 2 blocks away), but I've generally found the food and service lacking.

            3. I live in Silver Lake and there are no good restaurants there. Just go to the Red Lion on Glendale, have a good draft German beer and some sausages

No good restaurants in Silverlake? I don't think you're getting out that much, then.

I'd have to agree. Blair's is great. Pho Cafe is delicious. Nicky D's has excellent pizza if you eat in (quality of delivery is unreliable). Edendale Grill's bar menu is perfect for a snack at that beautiful bar. I even like El Conquistador when I'm in the mood for kitchy Mexican.
