Old post, but for anyone vegetarian going to Calistoga... DO NOT go to Jole. It sounds nice, "farm to table", but their menu consists of lamb tongue, pork belly, chicken livers and FOIE GRAS! We had great luck eating vegan at Palisades Deli for lunch (they are not open for dinner). For dinner, I recommend Pacifico Mexican Restaurant. It had a good atmosphere, reasonable prices, and our waiter, Manny, was extremely knowledgeable of ingredients -- making sure all our food was vegan. Be sure to try the salad with beets and jicama - it was delicious!! And ask for Manny!

How little are the kids? Calistoga is a pretty kid friendly town--much more so than lower in Napa Valley. I also recommend Checkers for the kid-friendly factor. If you go to Pacifico's, be sure to make a point that you are a vegetarian. Some of their menu items contain "hidden" animal products (ie animal fats, meat broths).

Checkers, Boskos seem to work well enough for our needs. I'll leave the gastronomic delights of Wappo for another time when kids are not around. If anyone has any other suggestions, do post.

Palisades market from a few years ago would've been good. But other threads report its closed. True?

re: legionnaire
I'm stumped, almost, and I'm a local. There is no vegetarian restaurant per se, here in
Calistoga or nearby in St. Helena. Most menus at restaurants offer vegetarian options
however. Yes, Palisades Market is no longer, but recently Cal-Mart grocery store has built a nice new deli-takeout section with both hot and cold foods and some vegetarian options.
With four kids, I'd try Checkers, Bosko's, possibly Wappo (my favorite overall),
even the Calistoga Roastery. This is a little town -- just three blocks long, and most
of the restaurants have their menus posted outside. A tip: call ahead to the restaurant
if you're able to and tell them your party of 5-6 vegetarians is coming in and I bet the
restaurant will try to accommodate you. Have fun, and good luck.
