Fun, Casual dinner for a group of 30 yr old girls

Planning a bachelorette party with 15-20 girls and want to find a fun restaurant or bar where we can have some light food and drinks. Maybe tapas, although I prefer American. I am thinking mini burgers, chicken skewers, quesadillas...don't want to get so stuffed that we can't go out afterwards. Don't need anything fancy, it can be a total dive...prefer downtown.

For some reason I know not long latter that LFeinberg will suggest Stanton Socials for your occasion =D. I think it is good as long as you can stand the insanely noisy environment as it is very likely that there are a few other parties going on in the restaurant. The dishes that you listed are pretty much the standard offerings in Stanton

While the atmosphere at Stanton Social may be "fun", as the OP wants, it's really not casual. And there is nothing "downtown" feeling about it. It might as well be in midtown, next to Tao. Or at least connected at the hip to Thor, another non-LES feeling LES restaurant!
Stanton Social is a great place to take clients who want something that feels "very NY", but just seems to formulaic and slightly off. It feels like the set of a tv show to me.

Oh. And the food is okay. Decent, but not really good or memorable (IMO).

I don't think the OP is asking for "downtown FEEL" and never mentioned "casual" but more a downtown location. And as I mentioned, this is not my recommendation (regulars here know I tend to drive away from Stanton Socials). I was referring to my good friend LFeinberg who loves stanton Socials and will recommend this place if he sees this post. Nevertheless, I do think the food that the OP is looking for is completely the right fit to Stanton Social's offerings.

          Got it.
Since she asked for a "fun, casual" dinner in her subject and later asked for "nothing fancy", possibly a dive, and that she preferred downtown, I assumed that she wanted something downtown in feel, as well!
No harm done. Just wanted to throw my opinion out there!

      Here are a few suggestions

*(Marshall Stack, LES, small plates good bar scene. Haven't been hear but have heard good things.
*Mannahatta, Noho, fits the bill in terms of the menu. Good location but it is a bit on the loungey side if you prefer a dive-type setting.
*Core One Nine One, LES, good menu and location.
*Gonzo, G Village, has Italian small and large plates and is good for groups. I have been there a handful of times and there always seems to be a bday party or bachelorette party.

Gonzo rocks...great atmosphere, outdoor dining option, great small plates...

I would suggest Alta where you can get small plates and share many different dishes. They also have long tables which would be condusive to a large group.

Thanks everyone. I will look into some of these. Actually, I guess when I said downtown, I meant something Flatiron/Union Sq or below, since we'd probably end up going out in either the Villiage of Meatpacking afterwards. So didn't want to have dinner on the UWS or anything!

What about Agave? You all would love the atmosphere and the margaritas are some of the best in town (think pomegrantite prickly pear). I think you all could order a bunch of different items (think quesadillas, dips, guacamole, tacos, etc) and share. I know that you are wanting American food, but IMO, you all would have a really fun time here and the food varies beyond Mexican.

This may sound off, but I went to a bachelorette party a Gonzales y Gonzales and had a great time. The food is eh, and it is an odd scene, but that doesn't matter once the margarita get poured. But the best thing about it is that the table in the back get moved and the room becomes a big salsa dance floor. It was so much fun! (and i am a terrible dancer).
