Oakbrook is primarily known (to me at least) for its Malls and Shopping Centers, as well as being the home of McDonalds. I'm not familiar with any local spots in the area, but two smaller Chicago based chains (maybe half a dozen outlets each) where you can get a good burger are:

Wildfire - in the Oakbrook Mall. I have also been happy wth their chopped salad, Tenderloin Tips, and, somewhat to my suprise, the Romanian Skirt Steak.

Weber Grill - chain founded by the Weber Grill company (A local Chicago company if you didn't know). Its actually the Lombard location. Only had burgers there.

At the same Mall as Wildfire is a Mon Ami Gabi - French Bistro run by the same restaurant group as Wildfire. FYI, they also have one at the Paris in Las Vegas in case you've been there.

If you can handle some recs from 2000 miles away...

Weber Grill was a good suggestion...straight-forward steak/chops/chicken. There's a couple outlets of Portillo's nearby...classic Chciago fast food - hot dogs, italian beef, burgers, along with some salds and other sandwiches. Good stuff. For pizza, there's an AUrelio's for great thin crust and Giordano's for the classic CHicago stuffed/deep dish. For a little higher-end, J Alexander is a good small chain, in the same vein of a Houston's. Also nearby at Yorktown in Lombard is CLaim Jumper, a local CA-based chain that recently expanded to the Chicago area (classic American, huge portions). A bit more upscale is my parent's go-to for a real nice meal out...Magnum's. FInally, for burgers, Taylor St Brewing Company is excellent, and the Jimmy Buffet place, Cheeseburger in Paradise, is just a couple miles west as well.

Ok, now I'm hungry!

Not sure if it still exists, but as mentioned McDonald's Corp HQ is right there...they used to have an in-house "restaurant" called The Golden Arches or something like that.

I second the recommendations of Greek Islands, Mon Ami Gabi, and for burgers, Weber Grill and Taylor Street brewing.

There are many Chinese dining options just south of Oakbrook in the town of Westmont. Katy's gets all the press, but IMO the best of the bunch is Chinese Kitchen, on Cass a couple blocks south of 63rd.

Other places I'd recommend are Sequel, Lorica, and TinFish. Sequel and Lorica are in the strip mall on the north end of the Yorktown Mall property, and TinFish is on 22nd street just east of Midwest Road. Note, if you go to Lorica, they have a "not on the menu" stuffed veal chop that is out of this world...

Burgers - Taylor St. Brewing, in Lombard, on Butterfield Road
Bistro - Mon Ami Gabi in the Oak Brook Center Mall.
Italian - Tuscany, just next door to the Oak Brook Marriott on 22nd St. May be more expensive than what you had in mind, but you can keep the prices moderate if you stick with the pasta dishes, which are excellent.
Pizza - Giordano's on 22nd St. for traditional Chicago style pizza. Also, Tuscany has very good thin crust (i.e,. Neapolitan style) pizza.
Chinese - Katy's Dumpling House in Westmont. A hole-in-the-wall, mainly carryout.

Also Greek Islands (already mentioned by Mugs, and an excellent choice in the area for moderately priced, well-prepared food). Sushi House in Westmont.

I hesitate to mention this because it's not in Oak Brook, but others have gone a little further down the road, so I'd like to suggest Finley's Grill Room on Finley Road just south of 22nd in Downers Grove. I love this place - service and food have always been good. Take a look at the menu:

Great $3 burger at Onion Grill, on Cass in Westmong just south of the Burlington tracks. Wouldn't qualify as fine dining. A Greek joint with just four tables.

Braxton Seafood Grill, SW corner of Oakbrook Center next to Macy's, is quite good, nice atmosphere. Have great Happy Hour specials M-F 4 to 7PM, including all apps $5 and a 1-lb lobster for $12-15 depending on market price.

Second the votes for Greek Islands; very nice. Our neighborhood group goes there every New Year/s Eve.

Go to Pappadoux, about 2 miles down Route 83 from the Oakbrook Center for great seafood, Cajun, and best onion rings in the known universe. Have happy Hour specials at the bar M-F, something like 2-5 (I don't remember exactly) with dozen oytsers for $8, wonderful calimari for about $6, and so on.

Have to agree with Pappadeaux.... their happy hour is from 3-6 M-F at the bar only. Half-price on all appetizers and daily drink specials. Their calamari is the best ever. Oysters are also top-notch. Very festive atmosphere.

So excited by my own review, we went back today. The dozen oysters are, in fact, $6, the calamari $8, and the fantastic onion rings are $4.50. (Happy Hour prices.)

I can't buy oysters at the grocery store for that price.

For hamburgers, I prefer J Alexanders. just outside the mall.
