Korean food

I'd be grateful if anybody could recommend good Korean food in the Yonge-Eglinton area (let's use north to the #401 and south to Bloor as geographic constraints). Thanks very much.

I'd like to thank those of you who suggested Shilla Dynasty. I went there last night and had a wonderful meal. I don't have the experience to speak knowledgeably about Korean food, but I'm comfortably saying the meal was superb. The pickled vegetables are equisite and the beef ribs were very good. It may not be fancy, but for $14.95 it's hard to imagine a better meal.

Glad to hear you had a positive experience and that your brave trek out to that part of the city was rewarded - I think the place is under-appreciated and its location probably has much to do with it... then again, its longevity in the food business says something too.

if you do find korean restos around Yonge/Eglinton, please do share as i am often in that area too

I think that Shilla is a very good restaurant, but I don't make it out there too often since I live in the east end. Glad you enjoyed it.

Perhaps you will have a chance to try the other Korean restaurants mentioned in the thread that "berbere" mentions in a reply above.

There is Ho Su, which is Korean/Japanese. It's not bad, but better restaurants to be had in Koreatown etc.

I am not a fan of Ho Su. There are MANY better options.

But I still don't think we are answering "chip" - his search for Korean near Yonge & Eg.

Ditto, do not like Ho Su at this location. Food isn't hot enough nor tasty.

I ay expand your parameters and go to Spring Garden in North York or Yonge/Finch. The best Korean spots are there.

Besides the one at Queen & John, Ho Su has a second location on Yonge a block north of Eglinton. Fits the bill IMHO.

Those are very tough constraints, since Koreatown #1 is at Bloor & Christie and #2 is on Yonge, between Sheppard and Finch. Many good restaurants in both those areas.

I don't think that I have been to any good Korean places near Yonge & Eglinton, but perhaps it's because I don't really look for any around there.

All the best in your quest.

oh, just thought of another one in the east side of the city: Gu Mi which is at Pharmacy and Lawrence - japanese-looking front, but really korean....

Shilla Dynasty - Weston/Lawrence: here's a thread that discussed this place among other Korean restos:

A little too far off the georgraphic parameters. I wouldn't make a special trip to Shilla. I wouldn't consider it good Korean food. If you really want "good" Korean food you need to venture south to Korea Town, "Bloor/Christie". There's a number of excellent restaurants along the strip. Keep in mind, each restaurant has their specialty dishes.
