I'm meeting a friend for his birthday in the King St. West / Bathurst area on a Wednesday evening. I've been to Marcel's, Big Daddy's, and also Thuet. I'm a bit leary of Lee. Any recs in the area or close-by.

thanks

    Blowfish is really good.

I was going to suggest Blowfish too.

I second Blowfish, or perhaps you could try Kiwe, but my preference would be Blowfish

There's also Niagara Street Cafe and Amuse-Bouche.

Out of curiosity, what makes you leary about Lee?

Blowfish is again recommended, Niagara Street Cafe and Amuse Bouche would be great 'date' type restos. Toshi sushi is also quite good, and Habitat a little further west on King is a fun spot to be with good food.

Habitat, if I'm not mistaken, is on Queen and not King. Unless you are speaking of a different Habitat that I'm not aware of (which is, of course, very possible).

i stand corrected...man, the geography is bad today :)

That being said, it's not a far hop up the street...

Diesta, re: Lee. I read 2 iffy reviews. One Feb 2007, and one March 2007. I don't want to spend time on a birthday and worry about the food.

I prefer a restaurant with solid reliability and satisfaction :)

I like Crush - good for dinner or for wine and snacks. It has a big, airy sort of California feel, so it's less intimate that something like Amuse-Bouche (which I do second if you're looking for romance - charmant!!).

I suppose you don't like Susur as well since there are also some iffy reviews on it ? But It is my favorite in that area.
Other than that, Habitat and Blowfish are not bad. Remember to try the stone grilled tiger shrimp with Truffle sauce if you go to Blowfish and skip the kaiseki dish if you go to Habitat.

Rodney's is awesome. None of that King West pretense;)

Crush and Blowfish get my vote. I'm not a big fan of Lee either.
